Matheus Taylor didn’t ask to be murdered. Quin didn’t care. Now, Matheus runs for his life, questions his sexual orientation & defies a mysterious new threat to vampires within his city.

Heaven greeted them at the steps when they returned. She took in their expressions, the blood coating their clothes.

“What happened?” she asked.

“Our new master declared war on Apollonia Parker,” said Eamon as he passed. Gwen and Salvatore followed, each laden with bags.

“Did he?” Heaven tilted her head to the side. “Why did he do that?”

“I didn’t declare war,” said Matheus. “I just made it clear that we’re not going to follow her orders.”

“Indeed,” said Heaven.

“Well, what was I supposed to do?” Matheus asked, dropping his bags.

“You are the master.”

“Right, fine. How the fuck does that help me?”

Heaven looked upward, unmoving, unblinking. Finally, she lowered her gaze to Matheus.
