Joining Curiosity Quills for another edition of our Author Spotlight: Question & Answer Coloumn, is Jadah McCoy, author of recently released sci-fi romance, ORGANIC, which hit Amazon on June 13, 2017!
In the comments, please join us in asking Jadah McCoy anything you’d like to know about writing, her new book, and her move to the California Bay Area. Or you know, just throw something completely random at her to keep her on her toes!
Who are you and where do you call home right now?
Hi! I am Jadah McCoy, and I currently reside in Nashville, Tennessee. However, I am moving to the California Bay Area at the end of June!
Tell us about your latest book: your inspiration for it, how you got through your most difficult challenge in writing it, and what you love about it?
My latest book is the second installation of my sci-fi trilogy! It picks up where Kepler Chronicles: Book 1 left off, with the main characters Syl and Bastion returning to Syl’s city to rescue the group of humans who raised her. This book was actually very easy to write! To me, the first draft is always the hardest part. When you’re a perfectionist, having an unfinished, unrefined product is always stressful!
What are a few of your hobbies?
I love travel. I’ve been to eight countries so far! And I’m a voracious reader. (Aren’t all authors?!)
If you had your own food truck, what would it serve?
My food truck would serve those weird food combos that you don’t expect to be amazing but are! Like hot Cheeto pizza and Kool Aid pickles and really bizarre stuff!
What do you want to get better at doing, writing-wise?
I would like to get better at drafting. I am honestly a very slow first draft writer. I would love to find a way to write more efficiently.
What TV series are you into right now and why?
Sense8! I’m so sad it was just canceled!! I just love how the series is so character-driven. The relationships between the many characters is really well done, in my opinion.
What movie do you quote the most?
Probably Taladega Nights. Or any Will Ferrell movie, really.
What do you collect, even a little bit? Tell us about your favorite one.
I am a crystal connoisseur. I have about ten crystals at the moment, ranging from the size of a fist to the size of a tooth, all different colors, shapes, and sparkles!
What’s your preferred genre of book when you just want to escape?
Fantasy. It’s what I began reading as a teen and I’ve always had a soft spot for it, especially fairy books!
What do you like to do on vacation?
Eat a lot of delicious food and lay around in the sun with a book, preferably.
Is there another genre you’ve been itching to write in?
I’m a little bit of a jack of all trades. I wrote fantasy before writing my sci-fi trilogy. I currently write women’s fiction as well, and have plans to dabble in horror, too!
What unusual object do you like to bring with you if you leave the house?
I might bring a crystal places with me. I like to fashion them into necklaces! :)
If you had a champion racing pigeon, what would you name it and what would its tagline be?
I don’t think I would race him! I think we would just go to a park and share fries. I would name him Pigeoto.
Finally, give us one recommendation for something - movie, TV, game, food - that you enjoyed recently.
Definitely check out the Handmaid’s Tale if you haven’t already. That’s another good show I’ve just finished!
Jadah McCoy’s ORGANIC, pitched as Bladerunner meets Pitch Black, in which 18-year-old Syl has barely survived the genetic splicing that plagued her human body. After discovering the androids’ plot to wipe out human and Cull alike, Syl must return to Elite to warn the other survivors. However, with the realization that her group of survivors isn’t the only one, also comes the realization that some humans are just as bad as androids. Bastion and Syl grow closer, however, their relationship suffers under the weight of her past ghosts and a growing threat that endangers human and android alike.
