About SPILL: Take That, Big Oil!
Veteran Kansas journalist, editor, publisher, and columnist, John Marshall, whose reporting specialty is politics, has this to say about SPILL, by Randy Attwood:
“Think all politicians are creeps, the rules are locked in against you and the world is forever in the grip of big politics and Bigger Oil? Think again. Attwood has.
SPILL is a what-if adventure, starting with a couple of insurgent citizens who con the establishment and get rich along the way. In Attwood’s world, all the old clichés are real and the system is rigged from the start - until it’s un-rigged by good guys bad to the bone - the funny bone.
From page one to the end, SPILL enlightens, amuses and instructs us that, one day, someone just might game the system - and get away with it. Attwood, brilliantly, shows us how.”
Reviews for SPILL: Take That, Big Oil!
It reminded me of the movie Fargo as most characters bungled their way through leaving a trail of laughs in their wake.Through description, dialogue, and private thought he captured the essence of his characters and brought them to life as if I was watching them on the big screen. They stumbled through each page. A few got lucky. A few did not. The young man seemed to be the most intelligent of the bunch and used his wits and business skills to design a lasting memento.Spill is an entertaining read. Expect giggles and laughter as you read.
A traditional third person narrative is used, with subtle shifts to itstone depending on the point of view. I have always felt that it is in his useof narrative that a writer shows his true quality, and Mr Attwood passes thisacid test with flying colours. There were a very fewproofreading errors, but by and large the book’s presentation is excellent, providing a good, clean read. All in all, the bookis a joy to read, and will particularly appeal to anyone who has worked in theeducation system, or in politics.
Filled with intriguing characters, and an amusing subplot involving skateboarding gamers, Spill is a comic tour de farce that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys political satire, generally humorous story-lines, and great writing. Randy has outdone himself on this one – give it a read as soon as possible!
