Curiosity Quills LogoInnovative publishing house, Curiosity Quills Press, has been opening its doors to speculative fiction authors since 2011, and growing its catalogue from its very first published title – Michael Shean’s “Shadow of a Dead Star” – to over sixty properties by forty-two authors scheduled to be released throughout 2012 and 2013. Spanning the gamut from hard science fiction to urban fantasy to horror to quirky “zombie noir”, readers have come to know that Curiosity Quills Press can answer to their tastes and interest.

But what truly makes the Curiosity Quills Press approach to publishing unique is how it engages both the reader and the aspiring author communities.

Earlier this year, three exciting titles – “Cell Hell” by Trudy Dillard, “Sanity Vacuum” by Thea Gregory, and “After the Woods” by Courtney Worth Young – were chosen from a large pool of contestants in the NaNo-Virtuosos Competition, and, having successfully passed through three nail-biting rounds (with several thousand votes cast!), received their publishing contracts from Curiosity Quills Press (along with gift cards and professional editing). Now, these titles will be making their way into readers’ hands and portable devices, having been literally voted in by the reading and writing communities.

Then, in May, CQ’s very own YA acquisition editor, Krystal Wade (author of the YA urban fantasy hit, “Wilde’s Fire“, and its upcoming 4th of July sequel, “Wilde’s Army“) threw an editor-judged competition of her own, in partnership with another Curiosity Quills author, Sharon Bayliss – the result of which was the induction of several titles by prolific blogger-authors into the list of upcoming properties, including Jessa Russo’s ghostly paranormal romance “EVER“, Jamie Ayres’ paranormal YA “18 Things“, Victoria Smith’s “The Crimson Hunt“, and Jade Hart’s “Samsara“. All four titles will be receiving their launch dates shortly.

Operations director, Lisa Gus, explains her vision for the future of publishing:

“With readers, bloggers, and aspiring authors playing such an important role in published authors’ success in this new publishing climate, we realized it might not be such a bad thing to share the publishing reigns with them. When readers, writers, bloggers, and everyone in between get involved in the excitement, publishing becomes a collaborative process in which everyone ultimately wins.”

Expect to see more hard-hitting titles from Curiosity Quills Press throughout the coming months, as well as limited-time special pricing on titles such as “Wilde’s Fire” and “The Stein & Candle Detective Agency, Vol. 1“, both $0.99 for a limited time. And be sure to browse the publisher’s website and sample more from its catalogue of published works and free serialized web fiction.
