First, a little bit on NEW ADULT FICTION and why I want it:
I know some of you reading this are wondering what New Adult is. Well, Wikipedia says it best:
As an acquisitions editor for one of the very few publishing houses that will accept New Adult, I want to reach out to the writing world with open arms. I want to tell you that I do believe in your New Adult novel, and I do believe that New Adult is a genre. It’s a new, emerging genre, yes, but I think it deserves a voice and a chance, and I’m ready to give it one.
At Curiosity Quills Press, we are proud to be a part of the New Adult movement. We recently released Fade by A.K. Morgen and it has been flying off the shelves. Krystal Wade’s Darkness Falls series (Wilde’s Fire, Wilde’s Army, Wilde’s Meadow) is upper YA, and fits nicely into the New Adult category as well. Samsara by Jade Hart and The Charge by Sharon Bayliss will both be releasing in early 2013, and are a perfect fit for those readers who are interested in reading New Adult fiction.
So what’s next?
Well, I say YOU are next.
We want to offer a home to those fantastically written stories you’ve been nurturing – the stories people have asked you to age up or age down because there’s no such thing as New Adult.
Ha! Tell that to the millions of twenty-something’s of the world! The millions of people just out of high school or making their way through college, or *gasp* still stuck at home and wishing for a change. The people who are in that crazy in-between stage in life and standing on the threshold of their future … Those are the people we need to speak up for. The people who don’t fit into the young adult box and aren’t quite ready to relate to thirty-year-old divorcees, with a baby on each hip.
And now for the exciting news:
I am happy to announce that Curiosity Quills Press is having an open call to submissions for New Adult novels. The appropriate length should be between 75,000-120,000 words, and the protagonist should be between 18-25 or so (but I’m willing to bend on both of those if the story is really amazing).
I am a huge fan of all things paranormal, and I love a good romance, but please don’t think that’s the only thing I will read. I said I want to welcome your New Adult submission with open arms and I meant it.
Please send your query in the body of the email, and first three chapters attached in a Word document to email@example.com.
I look forward to reading your submissions!
