Since November of 2011, twenty-nine ambitious writing projects have been battling for dominance in the NaNo-Virtuosos Competition, a contest of literary talent and perseverance in the weeks and months following NaNoWriMo.
The goal: to discover two of the best submissions – the cream of the crop – worthy of being published under the Curiosity Quills Press banner.
As of midnight tonight, we are just one more round away from the final verdict.
Congratulations to everyone who made it his far – and a huge kudos to the lucky five who made it past Round Two:
- Ashtray Girl, by Trystan Mackendrick, with 134 votes (20.21%)
- After the Woods, by Court Young, with 107 votes (16.14%)
- Sanity Vacuum, by Thea Isis Gregory, with 76 votes (11.46%)
- Happiness: How To Find It, by Anthony Mathenia, with 71 votes (10.71%)
- Cell Hell, by Trudy Dillard, with 69 votes (10.41%)
The winners of this round will receive $25 Amazon gift certificates, and professional editing of the first 10 pages of their manuscript – which will then proceed to Round Three, starting January 6 (tentatively for now, as the exact starting date will depend on how long it will take to get the edits back).
As for those entries that did not make it – you truly fought the good fight, and should keep on fighting for the best manuscript you can manage. Is it back to the drawing board? Probably not – but I hope this competition helped you produce a better novel than the one you came in with at the end of NaNoWriMo. You are always welcome to submit your manuscripts via our normal submission process.
So, what happens next?
Well – the edited, polished, and revamped 10 manuscript pages will be making their way onto the Curiosity Quills Press website for a third and final showdown, where readers will judge the worthiness of these “big five”.
After votes are tallied two weeks later, a pair of winners will receive $150 Amazon gift certificates and a publishing contract with Curiosity Quills Press (with no obligation, of course).
Needless to say, the stakes are higher than ever, so congratulate the winners, sharpen your pens, spread the word, and get ready for Round Three!
