Full Moon Bites

Ah, Book Blog Spotlight, my favourite bit of a week. How I miss you when you are not here.

Review blogs are well established by now as one of the best and most popular routes by which readers find recommendations for good quality books in the endless slush pile of new and otherwise unknown authors. This is word of mouth, made grand and far-reaching by the power of the internet age, and in this column we will spotlight a different blog each week to talk about what they review, how and why.

And so, continuing its vital role of exploring the book blogosphere to bring you new and interesting places to find great books, Book Blog Spotlight is happy to bring you Holly, of Full Moon Bites!

CQ: To start us off, can you tell us a bit about your site and what new readers can expect?

Holly: Full Moon Bites is a book review blog that features author interviews, guest posts, book excerpts, blog tours, giveaways and more.

We review most all genres from Young-Adult to Erotica, but we mostly lean toward more adult novels.

New readers can expect a variety of author interviews, giveaways, and other author features on an almost daily basis. :)

CQ: You mention Full Moon Bites blog tours on the site. What do these involve, and what books / authors have you done tours for so far?

Holly: FMB Blog Tours is still a relatively new thing for me. I started them in January and I have a quite a few packages available for authors all starting at a low price of just $10.00. They range from book review tours, book trailer, and cover reveal, plain book spotlight tours to mix tours that have book reviews, author interviews and more.

The tours range in length from 1-2 day tours, one week, the longest being 1 month. I did have a 60 day tour but after doing three of them I have put that package off the page until I have more tour hosts. Lol

I wanted to keep the prices as low as possible; book promotion is important to all authors and I want to give them a lot of promo for as little money as possible.

We have toured a few authors/books so far (Pavarti K Tyler, Alyssa Rose Ivy, Nilsa Rodriguez and Kathryn Meyer Griffith to name a few). We also have some great tours coming up including more from Alyssa Rose Ivy, Pavarti K Tyler, T. C. Archer, Cate Masters, Kallysten, Sara Brookes, and many more! :)

You can view all of our tour packages available for authors HERE or if you are a blog/site you can sign up to be a book tour hosts HERE.

CQ: FMB runs both and Author of the Week and Blog of the Month column. What does this involve, and how’s the experience been from your end?

Holly: Author of the Week started a long time ago; to be honest I think it was pretty much when I first created Full Moon Bites almost two years ago. It has been wonderful from my end, I have got to meet—virtual wise—many authors whose books I love to read and interview them. But most of all it has been great because I truly love doing it; I love promoting authors, it is fun, each author is so different with their thoughts on books and writing no matter how similar the genre’s they write.

Blog of the Month is a different story altogether and I have actually cut the feature now; there was not really much interest in it to be honest.

CQ: Urban fantasy and paranormal are experiencing a surge in popularity in media other than books, with TV shows like Heroes and Supernatural. What’s your personal pick of UF/Paranormal movies, TV shows, comics or video games?

Holly: I do not read comics—though I have read one graphic novel before—or play video games. As for TV: Supernatural, I absolutely love Jason Ankels. *drools* True Blood (I think the books are much better but I do like the show as well). Vampire Diaries Damian is my favorite brother in case you were wondering ;) (Again—the books were much better). Merlin and Being Human.

As for movies I do not watch many and can not think of any off of the top of my head. lol

CQ: Are vampires overdone, and what do you think the next paranormal fiction craze will be?

Holly: I do not think vampires are overdone—they will always be something in our entertainment even if they aren’t the thing right now, they will come back soon enough.

As for the next fiction craze I am pretty sure that if it is not already, then it will be mermaids and selkies. There have been a lot of books with this theme over the last few months and more set to be released though this year and 2013—I think I even saw a show advertised the other day about mermaids.

CQ: How much reader-interaction do you get through comments, Facebook, G+ etc? How important is that to your blogging?

Holly: I get a lot of reader interaction through blog comments but as for other social media… it is important to blogging to a certain extent such as getting word out about posts and authors on FMB. But do I get a lot of reader interaction on them? Not really. Hardly any on G+, Twitter gets more but Facebook actually gets the most. Even with all three though I do not get as much interaction as I do via blog comments, mostly they just help to get word out and drive traffic to the blog and comment section.

CQ: What anticipated new releases are you really looking forward to in the next twelve months?

Holly:

  • Unleash The Highland Warrior (Connor Clan #3) by Anita Clenney
  • Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson #7) by Patricia Briggs
  • Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse #13) by Charlaine Harris
  • Darkness Within (Lords of Avalon #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor
  • A Woman Entangled (Blackshear Family #3) by Cecilia Grant
  • Up From the Grave (Night Huntress, #7) by Jeaniene Frost

Just to name a few! LOL :)

CQ: Which two books would you recommend to a person new to the paranormal genre?

Holly: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost and Dead Until Dark by Charliane Harris

CQ: And finally, use this space to give a shout-out to one of your own favourite book blogs.

Holly: Under The Cover Book Blog, Queentutt’s World of Escapism, Close Encounters with the Night Kind and Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews. All are wonderful book blogs that I LOVE and visit often. They are more on the adult side though so caution these blogs may be hot! :)
